Taking aim at hunting, smoking
In regards to letter to the editor in the Press Tribune, June 17, ”Tell Placer County no on deer hunting,” I feel this country was founded on hunting for your food. This is a sport that is not aimed at being cruel to animals. If you have lived in this area most of your life you’ll also know there are mountain lions. Maybe letter-writer Teri Barnato may be new to the area. The state of California sells hunting tags in the same areas for the last 35 years. Trust me, the only deer in the area are does or if a hunter is lucky, a small-forked buck. This is truly pitiful. Their bodies are as large as a dog. Bucks in these areas might be lucky enough to live two years before being killed. This great state of California keeps selling tickets and taking peoples’ money. Trust me there is no land management that makes sense here other than the dollar as usual. I am also concerned about another letter to the editor in that same edition, “Is McClintock behind Children Smoking.” Come on, people are going to smoke if they really want to. Why is always someone else’s fault ? Do you really think we should spend money on “harsher” penalties? Could this be a hidden moneymaker? What percentage of the population smokes anymore or do you know of anyone out there that doesn’t know it’s bad for you? Do we really need to waste our time on common sense issues? Let’s all take responsibility for our actions and what we as families teach our kids. Roxanne Cornelison, Roseville
