Roseville Police officer happens across suspected fraud ring
By Nathan Donato-Weinstein | nathand@goldcountrymedia.com

A group of suspected counterfeiters found themselves at the wrong place at the wrong time, police said.

The bust of the alleged scam ring came as a Roseville officer was on a foot pursuit for a “totally unrelated” wanted felon around 4 a.m. June 26, Police Spokeswoman Dee Dee Gunther said.

The man ran in the direction of Roseville Square, and additional officers were called up to help in the search, she said. One of them spotted an individual resembling the wanted person in a group of three men hanging around a Bank of America teller machine at the shopping center.

“When he contacted them, they got very nervous, and some of them were looking like they possibly had some acquaintance with drugs,” Gunther said.

Upon investigating the men’s vehicle, officers turned up suspicious-looking checks, money-grams, debit cards and ID cards, as well as drug paraphernalia. One of them was allegedly trying to withdraw money with a suspected fraudulent debit card.

But the story didn’t end there.

Officers learned the men were staying at a Harding Boulevard hotel. There, they discovered three more people as well as counterfeiting equipment.

Gunther said the equipment included a laptop and a printer, check paper and numerous IDs that didn’t match the occupants. One of them is believed to belong to a Granite Bay woman whose identity was stolen in 2007.

“It’s very common for these folks to set up in hotel rooms,” Gunther said. “It’s not the first time we’ve found them operating in that way.”

Arrested at the bank were Robert Walter Brian Jacobs, 30, of Roseville; Joshua Bruce Fender, 27, of Sacramento; and Domeshean Donald, 30, of Sacramento, all on charges including making and possessing counterfeit checks and conspiracy.

Arrested at the hotel room were Alicia Nicole Hinzman, 18, of Roseville; Michael Kenneth Womack, 43, of Sacramento, also all on charges including making and possessing counterfeit checks and conspiracy.

Gunther said the wanted man had no connection to the alleged counterfeiters.
