SureWest holding golf tournament

Roseville-based communications holding company SureWest Communications recently announced its partnership with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation to host its 11th annual golf tournament, Tee Up To Cure Diabetes, Aug. 31 at Sierra View Country Club in Roseville.

“SureWest is dedicated to the community and we are proud to be a part of such an important event,” said Kirk Doyle, SureWest chairman of the board and chairman of the golf tournament in a news release. “Nearly 24 million people in the United States are affected by diabetes. Hopefully our efforts will help find a cure for this devastating disease.”

Eighty five percent of all donations to the JDRF golf tournament by SureWest and the SureWest Foundation, as well as all corporate, group and individual sponsorship dollars, directly support efforts to raise funds for research and awareness about the effects of diabetes.

Registration for the golf tournament begins at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start at 10 a.m.

Various events and contests will be held throughout the day with appetizers and cocktails served at 5 p.m. Auction items include a pair of round trip tickets on Jet Blue Airlines and accommodations at the Reunion resort in Orlando, Fla.

I'm glad Surewest is a sponsor for this event. It would be nice if they improved their television service, which is way substandard. Maybe some decade they will install HD capabilities to the older areas of Roseville. Doesn't take away from the sponsorship of this event, but they should also improve service because it is substandard.

JDRF is a fine organization that I am sure does good work. However, with the local economy is suffering greatly local non-profits are seeing an increase needs for services while experiencing a decrease in funding. With this in mind I would rather have the SureWest Foundation donate the proceeds to a small local charity rather than to give the money to JDRF whose 2008 revenue was $232 MILLION.

Absolutely amazing. This company doesn't have to do anyting. They choose to support a worthy cause and the only posts written are complaints.

Thank you Surewest for supporting a good cause.

Absolutely not a complaint! The Surewest Foundation does an amazing amount of charitable work in the community and we are all extremely grateful for all the support we receive. The comment was an observation in the context of difficult economic times where local non-profits struggle to provide staff and services to serve the people of Placer County.
