Valley Christian's 6-foot-4 freshman center Josh Bowden was a tough matchup in the paint once again in the VCA JV win over Bradshaw Christian.

The storyline has been similar almost every night out for the Valley Christian Academy junior varsity boys basketball team.

The young Lions get out to a big early lead and then coast to victory - it is something they have done in almost every league game so far, and the trend continued Tuesday night in Elk Grove.

VCA used a 20-7 third quarter advantage to build a lead that reached as many as 30 points in a 65-44 win over Bradshaw Christian. The Lions led 22-9 after one period and built from there as Josh Bowden and Josh Flanagan both had strong performances before intermission.

The lead expanded to 54-26 by the end of the third stanza and Valley Christian was able to throttle things back down the stretch.

Bowden scored 20 points in the contest as he dominated the paint. Point guard Kris Kobzeff once again filled up the stat sheet with 14 points, five assists, six rebounds and three steals.

Flanagan scored eight points and freshman reserve Clint Heckman scored six as a key contributor off the Lion bench.

Valley Christian (7-0 in the SMAL, 14-6 overall) is at Sacramento Adventist Thursday night.
